The Most Coveted Jobs in the World
Yesterday, I got an invitation in the mail for a Credit Suisse Alumni event. (Obviously I'm going to go, if only for the shock value.) Five years ago I was all about finance, and now I am all about art. It is so funny for me to catch up with people who I haven't kept in touch with or tell people I recently became friends with about my past life. Both groups seemed shocked. How does one transition from Investment Banking to the Art World? Well, it's easy. What most people don't realize is that these two seemingly different Worlds are actually very similar. I will tell you from first hand experience, it is just as hard to get a job at a prestigious art gallery, if not harder, than it is to get a job at a bulge bracket bank - you are simply trading a lucrative career for a glamorous one. Aside from access, once you actually get into the worlds of high finance and high art, the similarities are endless - both Worlds consist of people who think they're better than everyone else and both serve basically the same clientele. In short, Larry Gagosian is Goldman Sachs.
